UniMAP FOSS Day 2010

UniMAP Free Open Source Software (FOSS) Day 2010

A promotion and dissemination of information on open source software has been organized by School of Computer and Communication Engineering (PPKKP) on October 8, 2010 at Dewan Serbaguna Kg. Wai, Kuala Perlis. Programs throughout the day seeks to expose students and staff about the use of free software to replace the proprietary software that need to be purchased at the expensive cost. In addition, students are also expected to be part of software developers community with exposure to the open source software and open source game that involves programming languages 'C' and 'Java'.

Several related exhibitions open source software is also provided by PPKKP staff such as OpenOffice, Scilab, OMNeT++, Netbean and ns-2. The open source software can be used for teaching and learning and also research without the worried on expending expensive costs that are often used to update the license application. Also available during the day is free assistance on the installation of GNU/Linux Ubuntu Ultimate Edition and it's application demonstration. Most students do not miss the opportunity of having this free installation.
