A Visit from Prof. Dr. Mansoor Alam to SCCE

External Examiner Visit to School of Computer and Communication Engineering (SCCE)

SCCE was privileged to receive a visit from Prof. Dr. Mansoor Alam, the Chair and Graduate Director for the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at the University of Toledo, Ohio US, between 16th – 20th April 2012. Prof. Dr. Mansoor Alam received the B.S. in Electrical Engineering with honors from AMU Aligarh, India in 1969. He received the M.E. and Ph.D. degrees from IISc. Bangalore, in 1971 and 1974 respectively. He served as the Graduate Director of the EECS Department from 1996 - 1998 and the Undergraduate Director of the CSE program from 1998 - 2001. In addition to his academic and administrative achievements, he also received various awards such as, 2008 EECS Teacher of the year award, 2008 College of Engineering Outstanding Teacher award and 2006 IEEE Engineer of the year award of the IEEE Toledo Section.

Based on his vast experience and expertise, Prof. Dr. Mansoor Alam is appointed as external examiner to advise, evaluate and review the Computer Network Engineering degree program offerred by SCCE, UniMAP. During his 5-day visit, Prof. Dr. Mansoor Alam had the opportunity to meet several selected academics and students and gave valuable feedback on the Computer Network Engineering curriculum and structure. His feedback and recommendations served as guidance to assist SCCE in preparation for the accreditation by the Engineering Accreditation Council (EAC) next year. On the 19th. April, Prof. Dr. Mansoor Alam was invited to give a Talk on “Detection of Malicious Nodes in MANETs”. The talk was attended by SCCE’s academics, researches and Post-Graduates students. New ideas and research opportunities were introduced during the talk about identifying malicious nodes in a network, using a technique known as the Voting Process. Prof. Dr. Mansoor had also been given a tour around SCCE’s laboratories facilities located in Seberang Ramai and Kampung Wai, and also UniMAP’s Agrotech campus at Sg. ChuChuh and UniMAP’s main campus at Pauh Putra. The visit officially ended on Friday, 20th. April 2012.
