Overview

The 4th IEEE SCCE FYP Exhibition 2016 and award giving ceremony have been successfully held on 3rd June 2016. It was officiated by Ir. Prof. Dr. R. Badlishah Ahmad, Dean School of Computer and Communication Engineering (SCCE) and General Chair of 4th IEEE SCCE FYP Exhibition 2016.  This event is one of the prestigious annual events for SCCE since 2013 and was cordially jointly organized and co-sponsored by Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineering (IEEE). This year, this event was supported by IEEE ComSoc/VT, SPS, WIE, AP/MTT/EMC and the newly UniMAP IEEE Student Branch.

There were 27 potential shortlisted projects among a total of 103 FYP projects for the exhibition competition from three programs including 9 students from Computer Engineering (RK 20), 8 students from Communication Engineering (RK 53) and 10 students from Computer Network Engineering (RK 93). They were selected based on the evaluation marks by the FYP examiners. On 3rd June, these promising projects were presented in terms of slide presentation and practical demonstration to the panels individually.

Besides promoting student’s innovation ideas and reward those for producing outstanding projects, the event created a strong academic network between SCCE and IEEE Society. Furthermore, SCCE academicians could be highly acknowledged due to the successful supervision and monitoring their FYP students to produce excellent innovations/ prototype/ products etc.

Objectives

The objectives of this exhibition are:

  1. To recognize student performances by professional bodies.
  2. To expose the student with research exhibition experience.
  3. To establish a network between academic staffs and students in UniMAP with IEEE oganization.
    1. IEEE ComSoc Awards (2)
    2. IEEE SPS Award (1)
    3. IEEE AP/MTT/ EMC Award (1)
    4. IEEE WIE Award (1)
    5. Dean’s Award (1)
    6. Best RK20/RK53/RK93 Project Awards (3)
    7. Best Man Award (1)
    8. Best Women Award (1)

Evaluation Process

The evaluation process was conducted in three (3) sessions. During the 1st session, all the students were assessed by internal panels to decide on Best Program Awards. In the 2nd session, all students were evaluated by IEEE panels (ComSoc, SPS, WIE and AP/MTT/EMC) parallely based on respective track of specialization. In the 3rd session, all the panels together decided on Dean Award, Best Man project award and Best Women project award besides other respective awards.

All 27 students received the Final Year Project (FYP) Merit Awards as a token of appreciation. Excellent 11 projects were selected for the following awards. The complete list of IEEE FYP Award winners for 2016 is shown in Table 1.
