Pauh Putra 24th July 2017 School of Computer and Communication Engineering (SCCE) has successfully organized the Perlis Makers Day 2017 under Young Innovators Challenge (YIC) national programme. The ceremony started with a welcoming speech by the representative of UniMAP Vice Chancellor, Professor Dr. Syed Alwee Aljunid Syed Junid who is the Dean of Research Management and Innovation Centre. Perlis Makers Day was officiated by Ahli Majlis Mesyuarat Kerajaan Negeri Perlis, Yang Berbahagia Asmaiza Ahmad in an eventful ceremony at Dewan Kecemerlangan 2 (DK2). Perlis Makers Day is the first Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematic (STEM) event organized by the SCCE in the state level.

The event opened up with a demo showcase of 34 Embedded System-related Design Projects from 8 Secondary Schools around Perlis under specific categories such as food and agriculture, automotive/mobility, healthcare, home and shelter, heavy equipment and machinery, and retailer. The schools which were participated in this programme were enlisted as below:

  1. Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Abi
  2. Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Arau
  3. Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Dato Sheikh Ahmad
  4. Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Derma
  5. Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Al Madrasah Al-Alawiyah Ad Diniah
  6. Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Syed Hassan
  7. Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Syed Sirajuddin
  8. Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Tengku Budriah

This event was the finale programme of YIC at state level which has been done since April 2017. The involved lecturers identified the potential students from the SCCE to become mentors, followed by a special training organized by Chumbaka Sdn. Bhd. After the completion of this training, several visits and bootcamps were organized to the secondary schools around Perlis in which involved the Sciences and Innovations teachers together with their students until 3rd weeks of July 2017. This outreach programme is very beneficial not only to the secondary students but also to the SCCE students where it nurtured the leadership and volunteerism among UniMAP students.

The Perlis Makers Day was officially closed with an Award Ceremony and picture session at about 12.40 pm. Successful participants were presented with certificates, medals and special awards as an appreciation. Gold, silver and bronze medals were awarded to participations who succeeded in the innovation projects. The best of the best was awarded to SM Kebangsaan Derma with the project title of ‘Bild Ozean’, the Smart Presentation was awarded to SM Kebangsaan Derma with the project title of ‘Watched Dog’. Meanwhile, Potential for commercialization was awarded to SM Kebangsaan Syed Hassan, the project tile is ‘Auto Folding Cloth’. The lists of prize winners are as followed:
