Pauh Putra, 4 July 2018- Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP) received MYR100,000 from the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) to establish the Makerspace Lab at the Perpustakaan Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra (PTSFP). The establishment of the Makerspace Lab will be done under collaboration between School of Computer and Communication Engineering (SCCE) and PTSFP. The MCMC delegation was headed by the representative from MCMC Headquaters, En. Faizal and En. Azam, followed by MCMC Alor Setar Branch, En. Faizal Azizan. The delegation visited the Makerspace in UniMAP libray and brought by the SCCE Dean, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Azremi Al-Hadi together with Dr. Ruzelita Ngadiran, Deputy Dean of Academic and Research, Dr. Hasliza, Programme Chairperson Postgraduate Studies and Dr. Mohamed Nasrun Osman.

The check was presented by the representative of MCMC, Mr. Faizal to Vice-Chancellor, Dato’ Prof. Dr. Zul Azhar Zahid Jamal at Vice-Chancellor Office UniMAP yesterday. MCMC has agreed to develop the one and only Makerspace in Perlis, northern region of Malaysia in which have a high potential in nurturing the makers talents in our communities especially all the UniMAP students and young generation of Perlis under myMaker Regional Partnerships programme. MyMakerunder MCMC is a significant initiative in the age of 4th Industrial Revolution (4IR) to raise public awareness of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) incorporating Internet of Things (IoT) development for technology enthusiastics, educators, thinkers and students. The platform will provide makers society to be creative and innovative towards a smart digital nation in the areas of 3D printing, drone, embedded system, electronic, virtual reality, IoT programming and many other areas - “NowEveryOneCanMake”.

With the sponsorship of MYR100, 000 by the MCMC in building up Makerspace Lab at UniMAP, this collaboration is foreseen to induce Smart Community through various programmes such as myMaker Arduino Programming, 3D Printing and Drone Workshops. Through this Makerspace, it is expected to bridge the digital divide between urban and rural population.
